The uncomfortable truth

EdTech companies are terrible at marketing. Here is why.

Most EdTech founders build brilliant products and then hand marketing to a generalist agency that treats them like a SaaS company or a consumer app. It is neither.

EdTech buys in academic years, not sales sprints. It is sold to educators, but bought by administrators, procurement, IT, and sometimes parents. The pipeline breaks in places generalists do not know to look.

We only work with EdTech. We know the shape of your year, the language of your buyers, and where the pipeline actually breaks.

  • Enrolment cycles instead of sales cycles
  • Committee buyers with four or more stakeholders
  • Procurement and compliance blockers (COPPA, FERPA, GDPR)
  • Seasonal budget windows (Bett, ISTE, ASU+GSV)
  • Trust-based buying. No free trial converts a superintendent

FAQ

The questions EdTech marketers ask before hiring an agency.

Straight answers, no hedging. If you have a question that is not here, put it in a call. We will answer it live.

What kind of EdTech companies do you work with?

We work with EdTech across every segment. K-12 platforms selling into districts, higher-ed tools navigating institutional procurement, corporate L&D suites, consumer learning apps, language-learning platforms, LMS providers, tutoring marketplaces, assessment and credentialing tools, and AI-powered adaptive learning platforms.

What ties them together is buyer complexity. Whether you sell to a superintendent, a dean, an HR director, or a parent, every EdTech buyer takes longer than a SaaS buyer, needs more stakeholders to say yes, and cares more about trust than features. That is our specialty. If you sell software that helps humans learn, we probably fit.

How is an EdTech-focused agency different from a generalist B2B or SaaS agency?

Generalist agencies apply SaaS playbooks to EdTech and wonder why the leads do not close. A B2B SaaS playbook expects short cycles, one buyer, and free-trial conversion. EdTech has multi-quarter cycles, buying committees of four to eight people, procurement gates, compliance requirements like COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR, academic-calendar constraints, and trust-based buying where a free trial rarely converts a superintendent or provost.

Our playbooks are built around those realities. Our writers know the difference between marketing to a teacher and marketing to a district IT director. Our paid team knows which conferences and quarterly windows to concentrate spend against. That specificity compounds over months.

What does it cost to work with Edukable?

Our retainers range from $6,000 to $18,000 per month. Most clients invest between $9,000 and $14,000 per month.

We publish three tiers publicly. Starter for early-stage EdTech, Growth for scale-ups, and Scale for established platforms. We also offer a one-time paid diagnostic for founders who want senior strategic input without committing to a retainer yet.

Media spend on paid channels is separate and paid directly to the platforms. We are transparent because pricing games waste everyone's time, and because the wrong-fit deals cost both sides more than the right-fit ones ever earn.

How long until we see results?

Early signals show up inside 30 to 60 days. Traffic improvement, cleaner conversion, initial leads from new channels. Meaningful pipeline impact usually takes 90 to 180 days. Revenue impact from closed deals depends on your sales cycle length, which in EdTech typically runs three to nine months.

Anyone promising faster results is lying. Your enrolment cycle does not shorten because you hired an agency. What changes is that every month you have clearer signal about what is working, and every quarter compounds on the last.

Will you replace our in-house marketing team?

No. We extend it. Most of our clients have one to three internal marketers who are stretched thin. We become the extended team that handles the specialist work: paid media, technical SEO and GEO, content production, lifecycle, ops, attribution. Your internal team stays focused on strategy, brand, product marketing, and stakeholder management.

If you have no internal marketing yet, we can be the whole function until you are ready to hire. Many of our clients transition specific work back in-house as they grow, and we help them hire for it when they do.

Do you work with K-12, higher-ed, corporate learning, and consumer EdTech?

Yes to all four, and to every sub-segment inside them. Nineteen EdTech verticals in total. The core disciplines transfer across segments, but the messaging, buyer maps, channel mix, and compliance context are very different, and we build the playbook around your specific segment from day one.

How do you handle compliance and regulated markets (COPPA, FERPA, GDPR, student data)?

Every campaign we run, every landing page we build, and every automation we set up passes through a compliance check before it ships. We understand COPPA for products serving under-thirteens, FERPA for anything touching student records, GDPR for European learners, and the emerging state-level laws in the US.

We do not run growth tactics that create risk. If a strategy would technically work but expose you to regulatory scrutiny, we tell you and offer the compliant alternative.

What tools do you work in?

We are HubSpot certified and work fluently in Salesforce, GoHighLevel, Marketo, Pardot, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, and Customer.io. On the paid side we run Google Ads, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Reddit, and connected TV. For attribution we work with Dreamdata, HockeyStack, Segment, and native platform reporting.

Tool selection depends on your stage and your existing stack. We are not tied to any one platform. If you are in the wrong tool for your size, we will tell you and help you migrate.

Do you offer fractional CMO services?

Yes, for pre-Series-B EdTech founders who need senior marketing leadership but do not yet need a full-time hire. A fractional CMO engagement combines strategic ownership, hiring support, and access to the full Edukable execution team. Typically four to eight hours per week of senior time plus the agency capacity behind it.

How do you measure success?

We measure what maps to revenue. Qualified pipeline generated, enrolments driven, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, payback period, and channel-level contribution to closed deals. Vanity metrics like impressions and unqualified leads do not show up in our monthly reports unless you specifically ask for them.

You get a live dashboard from day one, plus a monthly written review with commentary on what is working, what is not, and what we are changing.

What is included in a monthly retainer?

Strategy and planning, campaign execution across your chosen channels, content and creative production, conversion optimisation, marketing operations and automation work, sales-alignment support, and reporting. You get a senior strategist as your account lead plus specialist practitioners for each discipline in scope.

Not included: media spend on paid platforms (paid directly to Google, Meta, LinkedIn), third-party tool subscriptions, and any major website rebuilds, which are usually a separate scoped project.

Where are you based, and do you work with clients globally?

We operate as a distributed team with active markets in Canada, New Zealand, the United States, France, Switzerland, and Brazil. We support engagements in English and French today, with Portuguese and Spanish coming in 2026. Our team runs across time zones so pipeline work does not stop when your local team clocks off.
